All-new, ultramodern, ultra fast, ultra safe.

All-new, ultramodern, ultra fast, ultra safe.
Introduction
The Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been the sales leader in luxury sedans for four decades. The outgoing model remained the segment leader in sales even after seven years on the market. Indeed, half of all the cars priced over $100,000 sold in the U.S. are still S-Class Benzes. That tells you something about the reputation of Mercedes-Benz's most expensive, most elaborate sedan.
Now, Mercedes has introduced an all-new S-Class. The exterior design, the interior design, and the onboard controls systems are entirely new, and all of the safety systems have been upgraded and even further integrated. Only a few parts and systems carry over from the previous-generation models, such as the air suspension system, the seven-speed automatic transmission, and most of the safety systems.
Competition among the best of the mainstream luxury cars is tough, but Mercedes may have risen to the top of the class with this ninth generation of S-Class models.

Introduction
The M-Class SUV might be the Swiss Army Knife in the Mercedes-Benz lineup. It isn't so large that it's cumbersome or hard to park, but it comfortably seats five and carries plenty of stuff. As daily transportation, it doesn't feel like a truck, and it won't beat its driver or passengers up. Yet it has the potential for some fairly serious off-road adventuring, and it can tow up to 5,000 pounds. The M-Class is more than powerful enough in any of its variations, with the safety equipment, luxury accoutrements, style and smooth finish expected of a Mercedes-Benz.
For 2007, the M-Class line features two new, very different models that will further broaden its appeal: The fuel-efficient ML320 CDI diesel and the ultra-high performance ML63 AMG.
With the ML320 CDI, you can forget just about everything bad you knew about diesels. It gives up nothing to the standard, gasoline-powered ML350. It's equipped identically, except for its diesel engine. The 3.2-liter diesel V6 generates 398 pound-feet of torque, comparable to a large-displacement V8, and brings a substantial improvement in fuel economy.
The ML63 AMG features a hand-built V8 that generates 503 horsepower with AMG tuning and enhancements to match all that power. Though considerably more expensive than other M-Class models, the ML63 AMG is a true high-performance machine. Its 6.2-liter V8 is hand-built by a single technician. It bursts from 0 to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds, according to Mercedes, with top speed electronically limited at 155 mph. Plus, it comes with the full load of luxury features.

BMW Record Car H2R at the High-Speed Miramas Proving Grounds

BMW Record Car H2R at the High-Speed Miramas Proving Grounds

The specifications of the H2R Record Car are a testament to this possibility. The 6-liter V12 engine develops an output of 285 horsepower. This engine propels the BMW prototype to 100 km/h (62 mph) in approximately 6 seconds and gives it a top speed of more than 186 mph, in excess of 300 km/h. Based on the gasoline engine featured in the BMW 760i, BMW's hydrogen combustion engine boasts advanced technologies such as BMW's fully variable VALVETRONIC valve drive. The main modifications to the engine involve the fuel injection system adapted by BMW to the special attributes and requirements of hydrogen. The H2R Record Car benefits from the results gained in series development of BMW's future hydrogen engine for the world's first premium sedan built for dual-mode operation.BMW will launch a dual-mode version of the current 7 Series during the production cycle of the present model, thus introducing the first car of its kind able to run on both hydrogen and gasoline. The H2R prototype set the following records shown here in terms of times measured and speed achieved:time in sec speed in mph- Flying-start kilometer: 11.993 186.520- Flying-start mile: 19.999 180.014- Standing-start 1/8 mile: 9.937 45.285- Standing-start ¼ mile: 14.967 60.132- Standing-start ½ kilometer: 17.342 64.495- Standing-start mile: 36.850 97.693- Standing-start 10 miles: 221.773 162.328- Standing-start kilometer: 26.749 83.627- Standing-start 10 kilometers: 146.409 152.787These results have been certified by the FIA. BMW works drivers Alfred Hilger, Jörg Weidinger and Günther Weber took turns at the wheel of the Record Car during their record-breaking session. The BMW H2R Record Car was conceived, designed and developed by BMW Forschung und Technik GmbH, the legendary subsidiary of BMW AG. The expressive, purposeful exterior design was created by DesignworksUSA, the California-based strategic design consultancy owned by BMW Group. The name "H2R" stands for "Hydrogen Record Car".BMW's motive in setting these records was not only to prove the power and performance of the hydrogen engine. In addition, the reliability and durability of the technology used clearly demonstrates BMW's leadership in developing the hydrogen engine to production standards. In this process BMW is concentrating on the combustion engine, simply because the combustion power unit, given the sum total of all its features and characteristics, still offers the largest number of advantages and benefits all in one.The M3 Competition Package - for the discerning driver who seeks the ultimate in handling and responsiveness.Already renowned for its performance and handling, the Competition Package takes M3 performance to the razor's edge. Every aspect of the M3's handling has been tweaked resulting in the best-handling M3 ever. The wheels are 19-inch forged-alloys with high-performance tires. They connect to a suspension that has been tuned specifically for the Competition Package. Turn-in is quicker with a more direct steering ratio which goes from 15.4:1 to 14.5:1.M Track mode and brake system taken from the BMW M3 CSLThe Dynamic Stability Control system includes a less intrusive M track mode, as on the M3 CSL, ensuring the security of DSC and spirited driving too. For inclement conditions the regular DSC mode remains. The brakes, also adopted from the M3 CSL, include compound and cross-drilled rotors. The front rotors have also been enlarged from12.8 to13.6 inches. As the serious enthusiast would expect, the Competition Package is available in combination with the standard six-speed manual or the optional Sequential Manual Gearbox. The interior enhancements of the package are subtle but purposeful. The Alcantara steering wheel and handbrake grip feel good to the touch. The addition of the steering wheel-mounted button for the DSC M track mode requires the deletion of the multi-function controls and cruise control. The Competition Package is available with all M3 Coupe interior and exterior color combinations. Two trim items are exclusive to the Competition Package. Special Competition Package aluminum trim is included on the interior. A new exterior color, Interlagos Blue, is offered only with this package. The Competition Package will be available for 2005 M3 Coupes beginning with December 2004 production. The price for the package will be $4,000.

Hyundai Hellion Side

Hyundai Hellion Side

Hyundai Design Center Chief Designer Joel Piaskowski says the Hellion concept was inspired by hard-shell backpacks. Low and wide with squared-off front corners, the concept's two-door hatchback styling is accentuated by big fender flares that house 20-inch wheels. There's a scoop in the clamshell hood, and the taillights look like small wings on the rear-quarter windows. The minimalist interior has front and rear bucket seats with a built-in hydration system, a la CamelBak, that Hyundai says allows the Hellion to do without cupholders. How does this work? It's sort of derivative of the old college hat with two beer cans on top, with tubes to drink from. Really. If that weren't enough, the backs of the bucket seats also have removable backpacks.

Callaway C16 Convertible cometh

Callaway C16 Convertible cometh

The folks at Callaway figured that if their customers were willing to plunk down the cash for a fixed-roof bespoke coupe, they'd be even more smitten with a drop top version. So at next month's New York Auto Show, they'll be debuting the C16 convertible, another supercharged super-Vette creating either 560 or 616 HP from its blown V8.Much like the hardtop version that debuted in Montreal, the open-air version will be able to reach 60 in three and half seconds and on to a top speed over 200 MPH. All that, while still leaving the factory with a five-year, 100k-mile warranty. If you've got the $128,765 entry fee, go on and read the full press release after the jump.

Acura 'Advanced Sedan Concept

Acura 'Advanced Sedan Concept

Acura wants you to imagine what the corporate bigwigs will be driving in 2020. They're answer comes in the form of the "Advanced Sedan Concept," straight from Acura's own LA-based design team. When the concept was initially uncovered, our first reaction was shock and amazement, followed by a touch of nausea. Once we got past the distinctively un-Acura like front clip, we started warming up to the concept behind the concept. But overall, there seems to be too many nautical cues for our tastes. The combination of high creases flanking both sides of the front fenders and the boat-tail rear end give new meaning to the term "land yacht." The high beltline may thrill buyers at the turn of this millenium, but we're unsure if it will stir emotion in 20 years time. Have we seen the future? Acura would like us to think so, but we're not entirely convinced.

The New Audi A3

The New Audi A3

The new premium athlete in the compact class is now set to enter the market: Audi proudly presents the second generation of the A3. Powerful four- and six-cylinder engines with up to 184 kW (250 bhp), quattro drive and the new, automatic DSG Direct Shift Gearbox team up with the highly dynamic suspension to provide exactly the driving pleasure you will sense at very first sight when admiring the sporting lines of the body. And the exclusivity of the car's features and materials once again conveys the supreme standard so typical of Audi's large models in the compact class.
The new A3 is therefore entering the market with the clear intention as the most sporting car in its class to thrill not only the loyal A3 driver, but also many new purchasers in the market. And these new customers must be won over against competitors with a big name and a renowned image. Competitors, indeed, who themselves have followed the successful concept of the former Audi A3 in the still young compact premium segment.
To reach this objective the engineers developing the successor to the Audi A3 gave themselves a very demanding brief from the start, focusing in particular on driving pleasure. Clearly defined concepts help to reach this objective, for example the emotional and dynamic exterior design together with the matching, sporting interior, a wide range of engines and transmissions for the first time including a six-cylinder version, and a chassis and suspension clearly setting the new benchmark in this class. A further objective was to outperform the high level of equipment and model features of the first A3 in order to successfully reach additional target groups.
The new Audi A3 therefore has everything it takes to continue - and, indeed, enhance - its predecessor's unique story of success. The second generation stands out through its superior sportiness, highly developed technology and the most dynamic design in its class, giving the car the same pole position clinched by the first generation of the Audi A3 right from the start.

Europeans gets first look at Toyota Auris

Europeans gets first look at Toyota Auris

If you're a European who wasn't a fan of the Toyota Corolla, take heart knowing Toyota's best seller is technically gone and being replaced by this car, the Auris, which was unveiled as a concept not three weeks ago at the Paris Motor Show. Today Toyota has taken the wraps off of the production version of the Auris to give Euro folk a peek at what to expect from the company's new C-segment hatch. Initially available in both three- and five-door hatchback versions, the Auris can be had with one of no less than five engines, two gas and three diesel. The petrol powerplants include a 1.4 VVT-i (97 HP) and 1.6 Dual VVT-i (124 HP), while the oil burners are a 1.4 D-4D (90 HP), 2.4 D-4D (126 HP) and 2.2 D-4D Clean Power (177 HP). With the latter engine, the Auris can hit 62 mph in 8.1 seconds. Euros can swap cogs with the Auris's 6-speed manual transmission or a MultiMode automatic transmission with paddle shifters on select models. So now Toyota has actually unveiled two new Corollas in the past month, the Auris for Europe and the Axio / Fielder wagon in Japan. Both are two very different cars, and we couldn't find agreement from our sources about which one will be sold in the U.S. From what we gather, the U.S. will get a version of the Axio sold in Japan, though it will wear styling similar to the Auris and, for that matter, the Yaris that's already on sale in the U.S.More pics and Toyota of Europe's complete press release after the jump.

Volkswagen launches new Polo GTI

Volkswagen launches new Polo GTI

VW continues its new model push with a performance version of its Polo. The company borrowed heavily from the Golf GTI to come up with its new Polo supermini, which hits selected markets this spring, after having debuted at the Tokyo Motor Show in late 2005.A significant step up from the last Polo GTI, which delivered 125 hp, the new GTI model pumps out 150 hp, good for 0-62 mph in 8.2 seconds. The baby GTI is powered by a turbocharged and intercooled 1.8-liter, 5-valve per cylinder, four cylinder engine. Other performance upgrades include 16-inch alloys sporting 205/45 rubber, and a lowered suspension with standard ESP. Oh, yes, and red brake calipers, too! More pics after the jump.

SEAT debuts new Leon FR, intelligent lighting system

SEAT debuts new Leon FR, intelligent lighting system

Volkswagen subsidiary SEAT is showing off its latest and greatest at its hometown Madrid Motor Show this week. Highlighting the company's announcements is its new Leon FR model. The sporty hatchback is powered by either a new 200 hp 2-liter TFSI gasoline engine or SEAT's 170 hp 2-liter TDI diesel. The top-line TFSI powerplant is good for 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) in a respectable 7.3 seconds. Performance trim includes 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels, and a very nice-looking set of sport seats.SEAT's Advanced Front Lighting System is a pretty cool feature for a mid-market brand - the bi-xenon headlights are integrated with the vehicle's chassis dynamics system to adjust headlight beam direction, not only steering the headlights into a corner, but also adjusting the height of the beam as the car's load changes

Jaguar C-XF Concept

Jaguar C-XF Concept: Detroit Preview
It’s been a while since Jaguar has taken a fresh design direction. For the past two decades or more, the luxury automaker has produced sedans and coupes that have looked very much like the cars that came before them. In other words, Jaguars have been retro for far too long. Well, that’s about to change.
The C-XF concept sedan, set to take the stage in Detroit next week, is a clean-slate design for Jag. Gone are the four round headlamps that have adorned the nose of every Jaguar sedan since, well, forever. Instead, the sedan has menacing eyes and a big, big grill upfront. Behind that grill is Jag’s familiar, supercharged 4.2-liter V8 tuned to produce 420 hp and paired to a six-speed automatic.
Like the Mercedes-Benz CLS and Lincoln’s MKR concept, the C-XF is a four-door sedan with a coupe’s proportions. And to our eyes, that low roofline and high beltline look just right. Jaguar says the C-XF is just a concept, but we’ll bet a toned-down version of this car will launch within a year or two as the replacement for the current S-Type sedan. We’ve got our fingers crossed—this is one sweet-looking Jag. —Ben Stewart

New Toyota Supra

New Toyota Supra

All I want to say is I'm glad Autoblog is around at this time in automotive history. I can't remember this many exciting new models in the past twenty years. As the world around us is far from perfect, automakers are distracting us with some of the most beautiful and high-powered vehicles of the modern era. Now come spy shots of a new Toyota Supra. I've Photoshopped the image originally shown on AutoSpies to better showoff the car. Obviously these were scanned in from a magazine or brochure. AutoSpies says it looks like an Aston Martin or the new Shelby GR-1. I don't know what it looks like but it sure doesn't look like a Toyota, although neither did the last Supra. Thoughts?

Honda S2000

Honda S2000

Honda S2000 Continues to Define Racing-Inspired Performance for 2007
Widely considered the quintessential roadster-style sports car, the S2000 is the performance icon for the Honda brand and combines uncompromising racetrack-ready performance with everyday usability.Introduced in 1999, the S2000 rewards driving enthusiasts with a potent 237 horsepower, 2.2-liter, 16-valve DOHC VTEC 4-cylinder engine and a precise, short throw 6-speed manual transmission, along with tenacious handling and a perfect 50/50 weight balance. Continuing with significant improvements made to the 2006 model, the 2007 Honda S2000 includes an electronic Drive-by-Wire (DBW) Throttle System, Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), Maintenance Minder system, standard headrest speakers, an outside temperature gauge and an engine start button."The Honda S2000 is a true performance vehicle that provides customers with an exciting experience behind the wheel," said John Mendel, senior vice president of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "Since the S2000 is a car designed by enthusiasts for enthusiasts, it can easily satisfy daily driving needs without sacrificing track-worthy performance."The S2000's renowned high-revving, 2.2-liter, 16-valve DOHC VTEC 4-cylinder engine remains the pinnacle of naturally aspirated performance technology, delivering 237 horsepower at 7,800 rpm and 162 lb-ft of torque at 6,800 rpm. Perfectly complimenting the engine's output characteristics is a compact, longitudinally-mounted, close-ratio 6-speed manual transmission that features a direct linkage for precise shifting and quick throws. The S2000 comes equipped with a Drive-by-Wire throttle control system eliminating the need for a mechanical connection between the throttle pedal and the engine. This enables continuous electronic monitoring and adjustment of throttle pedal sensitivity to create an ideal match between throttle response and driving conditions. The system also manages the S2000's cruise control function for greater precision.Honda's VSA system makes the S2000 more stable and forgiving during street driving or in inclement weather conditions. Working in concert with the Drive-by-Wire system, VSA continuously monitors yaw rate, steering input, throttle input, and braking pressure to determine if the car is following the driver's intended path, and can independently coordinate each of the disk brakes through the 4-channel anti-lock brake system, along with the throttle, to enhance vehicle stability. While this serves to effectively enhance driver control during acceleration, braking, and cornering, the system can be disabled with the touch of a button when conditions warrant it. To help provide optimum stopping power, the braking system also features Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) and Brake Assist. The S2000's rear-wheel-drive chassis and powertrain layout results in a 50/50 front/rear weight distribution for perfect balance when cornering, while its hybrid monocoque body and "high X-bone frame" results in exceptional structural rigidity. Combined with a front and rear double wishbone suspension, precise electric power steering, and a torque-sensing limited slip differential, the end result is a complete, no compromise, performance package for the enthusiast driver.Standard features for the S2000 include a power retractable convertible top, 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels, leather trimmed seats and High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps with daytime running lights. An aluminum hardtop and XM Satellite Radio are available as dealer installed options. For 2007, the S2000 is available in six colors, including, Laguna Blue Pearl, Silverstone Metallic, New Formula Red, Rio Yellow Pearl, Berlina Black and Grand Prix White.

Honda Type R

Honda Type R

The latest high performance Civic is a more refined ´superhatch´ than the outgoing Type R, but this doesn´t mean that it´s lost any of it´s driving excitement. Improved comfort levels, integrated styling and handling that has been tuned to enhance responsiveness and predictability look set to make this Type R the most exciting version to date.
The new Type R is still powered by the naturally aspirated, high revving 2.0-litre DOHC i-VTEC engine, but the unit has undergone significant reworkings to improve the responsiveness - using a new balancer shaft and drive by wire throttle control. VTEC variable valve timing and VTC variable inlet camshaft technology continue to underpin the structure of the engine.
Max power now sits at 201PS reached at 8,000rpm and the car is generally more responsive, while new improved aerodynamics make sure that the car cleanly cuts through the air.
Acceleration figures are expected to be the same as the 6.6 second. 0-62mph is the time of the outgoing Type R and this should be matched by its successor - with a top speed reaching 146mph. The Civic 5 door chassis forms the basis for the 3-door models and provides a perfect platform for the Type R.
Looks wise, the already strong appearance of the Civic has been enhanced to build an aggressive and assertive look. Front and rear spoilers, triangular foglights and 18" seven-spoke alloys all add to its dominating stance.
The interior is accentuated with the effective Dual Zone dash which is seen in other Civic models, but in the Type R features red illuminated dials set off by gun-metal effect switch panels on either side of the central display. A black, leather-covered steering wheel with red stitching and central ‘H’ logo take centre stage, while the gear shift knob with aluminium-finish has a black boot with red stitching.
To make this car even more exclusive, each Type R will also feature a plaque engraved with the car’s unique serial number is placed just ahead of the gear lever.
Pricing is yet to be announced. To read about the Civic Type R in more detail click here.

Audi A8

Audi A8

July 13, 2002 - Audi has released the first official photos of the new A8, which will have it's public debut at the Paris Motor Show in September. With the new A8, Audi seeks "to redefine the notion of sports appeal in the luxury segment, with compelling handling, pioneering technology and exclusive design and equipment." As the brand's flagship model, it uncompromisingly demonstrates the identity of the next generation of Audi models. There were four priority areas in the development of the new Audi A8: design, lightweight construction, dynamism and electronics. These four areas were linked by a single idea: the idea of ease. In other words, ease in the sense of design harmony, ease of acceleration, the ease with which it can be handled - the driver of an A8 should not have the impression of handling a large saloon car - and, finally, ease of operation. Its design gives visual expression to the unique character of the new A8. Expansive, strikingly arched surfaces are framed by precisely plotted lines. The bodyside theme continues the clean, controlled surfaces seen on the A6, but with more muscular proportions. A deep bevel to the lower door surfaces, together with a sharply defined rocker section adds interest to the bodyside, and seeks to give the car a lighter and more dynamic appearance. This theme is continued around the vehicle, with similar forms on the front and rear bumpers. The silhouette of flat front and short body overhangs hint at the cars dynamic potential. Two V8 engines, a 4.2 litre version with an output of 246 kW (335 bhp) and a 3.7 litre version developing 206 kW (280 bhp), will be available at the market launch in autumn 2002. One new feature in the A8 is the 6-speed automatic transmission with tiptronic function, which constantly assures an optimum transition between the various speed stages. As an option, it is also possible to change gear via shift paddles mounted on the steering wheel; the ergonomic advantages of this concept have already been demonstrated on Audi's R8 Le Mans race car.The A8's aluminium body is built using the Audi Space Frame (ASF). Quattro permanent four-wheel drive remains unequalled in the luxury segment. It translates engine performance into superbly effective propulsion and lateral support. The air suspension for the new A8's aluminium running gear provides an optimum characteristic in every driving situation: By means of the continuously variable damper settings, the adaptive air suspension reduces body movements, while optimising roadholding and ride comfort. The driver can choose between three predefined settings, for a suspension characteristic ranging from overtly sporty to ultra-comfortable.In the luxurious interior, the driver will find an innovative approach to interacting with the vehicle's technology and its communication systems, in the guise of the Multi Media Interface (MMI). Ingenious ergonomics and an intrinsically logical and therefore self-evident operating concept make this car uniquely easy to operate, allowing the driver to concentrate on the traffic. When it's predecessor was launched in 1994, the A8 was the first production saloon to have an aluminium body. The low weight of the ASF Audi Space Frame brought a significant gain in operating dynamics, while reversing the upward spiral of body weight. At the same time, Audi set a new benchmark for dynamic handling in the luxury car class thanks to its quattro drive.Such characteristics and such a success story set a very high standard for its successor, which sets out with the clear objective of building on its predecessor's strengths and doing things even better in the areas in which the previous model excelled.

Zero concept

Zero concept bares a striking resemblence to the Audi TT, Nissan 350Z, and Infiniti G35 coupe. A project that has come out of the International School of Design in France, more specifically transportation designer Franck Levivier and digital designers Remi Marchand and Pierre-Olivier Wagner.Based on exterior design alone, you would expect that such a concept would involve a V6 (or bigger) engine with a huge displacement and outrageous horsepower numbers. Instead, the designers envision the R-Zero being "powered by an electric motor yet offer a supercar level of performance." To be able to generate the 800 volts of output and rocket around the test track, the R-Zero is said to deploy around 1,200 kilos (about 2,645 pounds) of "high-tech lithium-ion batteries" and a quad of engines weighing 85 kilograms (187 pounds) in total. Add in the chassis, the interior, body panelling, and all that and you have yourself a rather porky sportscar, no?

Nissan Skyline

Nissan Skyline
The next Nissan Skyline will be wilder than ever when it hits the streets in two years. The all-new R35 Skyline GT-R will use a Le Mans-proven V8 engine that produces around 400bhp. With a 3.5-litre variant of the unit that powered the Nissan R390 GT1, the R35 will rival Porsche's 911 and the forthcoming V8-powered Honda NSX, sprinting from 0-60mph in less than 4.5 seconds and hitting a top speed of 170mph.
The current hi-tech, four-wheel-drive Skyline is powered by a turbocharged straight six-cylinder engine delivering 280bhp. Insiders at Nissan say the new unit is necessary to allow its models to compete with European supercars as more power is needed, and that rival Japanese models, including Mitsubishi's Lancer Evo VI, already produce more than 280bhp. The R35 will borrow from the existing R34's innovative drivetrain and computerised gadgetry. That means the R35 will use a six-speed gearbox and four-wheel-steering. The brakes will be uprated, though, and the suspension tuned to give greater flexibility on demanding roads.
The price will increase, and it is expected the newcomer will cost a Porsche 911-rivalling $60,000. Nissan is not alone in adopting such a change of strategy. Honda is developing a new 400bhp V8 engine, while Mitsubishi is currently working to produce a range of powerful GDi direct-injection units including a 2.0-litre turbocharged version for its rally cars, a V8 and a V12.

SNAKE EYES
Having recently proven itself in the American Le Mans Series with an undefeated season, Dodge Viper GTS-R proudly claims the title of thoroughbred racer. The Viper GTSR Concept Vehicle explores the idea of bringing that race-ready handling and performance to the street.
The Viper GTS-R street racer is lower and lighter than ever, and every detail has been reworked for maximum functionality. Viper GTS-R's airflow is fully adjustable by the driver with an electronically controlled front splitter, a large rear air diffuser and a rear hoop spoiler with an electronically trimmable wing.
To further blur the boundaries between racer and road car, Dodge engineers managed to tweak a little more power out of Viper's outrageous 8.0-liter V10. With dry-sump technology, it now produces 500 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque - up from 450 and 490, respectively.
That's enough extra get-up-and-go-power to take the Dodge Viper GTSR Concept Vehicle from 0-60 in 3.75 seconds (est.), with a top speed coming in at over 200 miles per hour!
Key Features:
Lightweight carbon fiber body
Modified space frame & suspension
Larger, racing tuned brakes
19-inch front/20-inch rear tires
Chassis lowered 2 inches
Sill-to-roof height 1.5 inches lower
Lower hood with larger grille opening and integrated engine louvers
Larger, snake-eye-inspired headlights, designed for endurance racing
Electronically trimmed front splitter
Larger rear air diffuser
Larger rear hoop spoiler with electronically trimmed rear wing
Larger doors for improved ingress/egress
Racing-inspired interior decor
Built-in fire suppression system

SUPER CHARGED
Along with the name, we also brought back the heritage that made Charger R/T a legend. This concept car advances four-door style into an entirely new dimension. True to the original muscle car form, Charger R/T, with its low, thrusting hood, has a powerful V8 matched with a five-speed manual transmission that drives the rear wheels. The front grille and lamps look menacing. The body is taut. The rear deck with spoiler, and the fascia with sly-looking taillamps and twin exhaust outlets, all signify a vigorous departure from the past. In true retro form, 1966 meets the millennium. One look at the radio knobs and three-spoke steering wheel will confirm that. The pistol-grip shift lever adds to the feeling.
Throughout this interior past and future, street and racing are balanced. Exposed metal is emphasized -- but the front and rear bucket seats are made of carbon fiber and have red leather accents. Because the Charger R/T is supercharged, the 4.7-liter SOHC, 16-valve, V8 engine has the kind of ferocity that results in 325 horsepower.
But Charger R/T is environmentally gentle -- its Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuel produces negligible emissions at the tail pipes.

Dodge Magnum

Magnum SRT-8 Get a closer look at Dodge Magnum
THE NEW MUSCLE
It's been more than 30 years since Dodge ruled the streets with HEMI® power and rear-wheel-drive performance. Dodge has unleashed that power in an all-new proportion with the introduction of its 2003 Dodge Magnum SRT-8 concept vehicle.
"Dodge Magnum is the new shape of American muscle," said Dieter Zetsche, President and CEO of the Chrysler Group. "With its innovative packaging, performance and utility, there's nothing else like it. While Chrysler Pacifica is the premium sports tourer, Dodge Magnum is the performance sports tourer that packs a powerful punch and the functionality of an all-wheel drive sport utility. Armed with a HEMI inside and rear-wheel-drive, Dodge Magnum delivers power in a package that offers unmatched flexibility and versatility."
While the Dodge Magnum SRT-8 is a concept vehicle, it provides a strong hint at the first version of Chrysler Group's much-anticipated next-generation of rear-wheel drive "LX" vehicles. A production version similar to the Dodge Magnum SRT-8 concept vehicle will go on sale in 2004 under the Magnum name.

New Touareg Debut

New Touareg Debut

Volkswagen has revealed the first photographs of its new Touareg model ahead of its world public debut at the Paris Motor Show next week. With revised styling, updated interior and new sound system as an option, the new Touareg goes on sale in the UK at the beginning of next year.
At the front, the new Touareg features a new grille, bonnet, front wings and bumper, plus new headlights and mirrors. The rear lights, spoiler, bumper and exhaust pipes have also been modified.
The new model will feature new and revised technology, including ABSPlus and additional ESP (Electronic Stabilisation Programme) features. The ABSPlus system - developed and patented by Volkswagen - shortens the braking distance by up to 20% on loose driving surfaces. New features have been added to the ESP, these include Active Rollover Protection (ARP), rain brake support, fading brake support and understeer control logic, which improves the turning behaviour in the event of understeer.
The UK line-up will remain as before with three trim levels - Touareg, SE and Altitude. Four engines will be available: one petrol and three diesel. These are a 3.6-litre V6 276bhp petrol; 2.5-litre TDI 171bhp with DPF (diesel particulate filter); 3.0-litre V6 TDI 221bhp with or without DPF; and the range-topping 5.0-litre V10 TDI with 308bhp and DPF.
The 2.5-litre TDI will be available as standard with a six-speed manual gearbox and optional Tiptronic automatic transmission. All other engines will be mated to the six speed Tiptronic automatic transmission.
